Found Animals
If you've found an animal
It isn't always easy to determine whether an animal is lost or abandoned, but in either case, the animal needs your help. Sometimes pets are lost for a year or more before being reunited with their owner. It is only when a caring individual takes the time to contact us that we can help bring the pet and the owner together again.
Often we will be able to identify the lost pet immediately, especially if it is wearing identification. In cases like this, we can contact the owner and have them pickup the pet from you. If no match is made over the phone, you may bring the animal to our shelter or we will make arrangements to pick the pet up from you.
To report a found animal:
File a found animal report on line or call in directly at 877-3680 ext 23. We are open Tuesday Wednesday and Saturday from 8:00am -4:30pm. Thursday and Friday from noon - 8:00pm. If you reach our recording please leave a detailed description of the pet including any visible identification. Often pets will have a tattoo in their right ear, so please check if at all possible. Be sure to leave your name and 2 call back numbers so we can confirm the report and give you information on possible owners.
If you wish to hold onto the animal while an owner is being located we encourage you to place a free ad in the Maui News.
To report an injured animal you have found:
During business hours contact us at 877-3680 when you reach our greeting press the Pound Key
After Hours contact the Maui Police Department at 244-6400
If the Animal is loose:
It is important for you to have the animal tied or confined before you call us to pick it up from you. We have humane animal traps available for you. This is to help protect the animal and also to assure that it will be there when we come to pick it up. However, we encourage you to call us to report seeing the animal, even if you have not been able to secure it. If you feel safe approaching the animal, please confine or leash it in a humane manner.
